The arithmetic
Fuel needed = distance × consumption; cost = fuel × price. Distance may be km or miles and doubled for a round trip; consumption may be given in L/100 km, km/L, mpg (US) or mpg (UK) and is converted with exact factors (mile 1.609344 km, US gallon 3.785411784 L, UK gallon 4.54609 L); the price may be per litre or per either gallon. Splitting between people divides the cost equally.
Repeated trips
Given trips per week, the weekly figure is scaled to a month of 365 ÷ 12 days and a year of 365 days, so twelve months equal one year exactly. The yearly litres are shown too — a useful sanity check against real fill-ups.
Which consumption
The figure you enter decides the answer. A rated (WLTP/EPA) number, a trip-computer average and a motorway run at speed can differ by a third; use the one that matches the trip. Fuel Economy & Converter turns a fill-up into the right unit.
What the number does not settle
