True Shooting & Effective FG%
True shooting percentage, effective field-goal percentage and FG, 3P, 2P and FT percentages from makes and attempts, with the free-throw factor adjustable.
True shooting and effective field-goal percentage, points and points per shooting attempt, field-goal, two-point, three-point and free-throw percentages, and the three-point and free-throw rates.
Example: 10 of 20 from the field with 4 of 9 threes and 6 of 8 free throws: 30 points, effective FG 60 %, true shooting 63.8 %.
Every point,
every shot.
Why field-goal percentage undersells threes, how eFG% and true shooting fix it, what the 0.44 does, and where the formulas stop.
Effective field goals
A made three is worth half as much again as a two, so eFG% counts it as one and a half makes: (FGM + 0.5 × 3PM) ÷ FGA. A player who hits 4 of 10 threes has a 40 % field-goal percentage but a 60 % eFG%.
True shooting
True shooting adds free throws: points ÷ (2 × true shooting attempts), where TSA = FGA + 0.44 × FTA. The factor turns free throws into the possessions they used — two shots after a foul are one trip, and-ones and technicals are extra — and 0.44 is the value the NBA and Basketball-Reference use. Some college analysts use slightly more, so it is an input.
Points
Points are rebuilt from the line — 2 × FGM + 3PM + FTM — so they always match the shots entered. Rates with no attempts show a dash rather than zero.
What the numbers do not settle
Efficiency is not volume or shot difficulty, and nothing here adjusts for pace or league. Inputs stay in your browser; the same anonymous usage counts as the rest of the site apply.
