How weight is estimated

Mass (kg) = section area (mm²) × length (mm) × density (kg/m³) ÷ 1,000,000,000. Flat bars use width × thickness; round bars use π × diameter² ÷ 4. Tubes subtract the inner void. Rectangular tubes assume sharp corners, so actual supplier weights can differ due to corner radii, tolerances, and alloy. The default density is generic steel, not a grade specification.

How cuts and allowances work

Parts are sorted longest first, then placed in the stock bar with the smallest remaining space that fits. This best-fit decreasing heuristic produces a feasible plan, not a guarantee of global optimality. Each piece consumes one kerf, including the last piece. Both end trims include their own cutting allowance. Offcut excludes finished lengths, kerf, and trims. Lengths support up to three decimal places in mm.

What this pilot supports

One profile and stock length per plan; up to 100 part rows and 1,000 finished pieces; metric dimensions and straight 1D cuts. No mitres, 2D nesting, limited inventory, mixed profiles, or structural strength assessment. Inputs stay in browser memory, and are lost on refresh. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored. To learn whether the pilot is used, the page sends four anonymous counts to our own server — plan generated, CSV exported, print opened, feedback opened — with no inputs, no cookies, and no third-party scripts.
