Cubic Yards & Volume Calculator
Cubic yards, cubic feet and cubic metres for slabs, pads, beds and fills from length, width and depth, several shapes at once, with waste, tonnage and cost.
The volume to order for concrete, gravel, soil or mulch, in the unit the supplier quotes, with each item listed and the depth conversion done for you.
Example: A 20 × 10 ft slab at 4 in (2.47 yd³) plus a 6 ft round pad at 6 in (0.52 yd³) = 2.99 yd³ = 80.8 ft³ = 2.29 m³; at 150 lb/ft³ that is 12,121 lb (6.06 US tons).
Area times depth,
in the unit you order.
How the volume is formed, the exact conversions, and why tonnage needs a density from your supplier.
Volume
Each item is an area times a depth: a rectangle (length × width), a circle (π × D² ÷ 4) or an area you already know, with the depth entered in inches or centimetres because that is how thickness is specified. Items can repeat with a quantity, and the totals are summed. A waste allowance, if you use one, is added to the total after summing; the page does not choose one for you.
Cubic yards, feet and metres
A cubic yard is exactly 27 cubic feet, and since the international foot is exactly 0.3048 m, a cubic yard is 0.764 554 857 984 m³. The table converts the waste-inclusive total to yd³, ft³, m³, litres and US gallons with those exact factors, so a figure quoted in one system can be checked against a supplier who quotes in the other.
Tonnage and cost
Mass is volume × density, and the density is yours to enter: gravel, sand, soil and mulch vary widely with grading, moisture and compaction, and concrete with its mix, so no value is assumed. Ask the supplier for the bulk density of the material as delivered, or use the Aggregate & Asphalt Tonnage page for aggregates. Cost is the waste-inclusive volume times the price per cubic yard or cubic metre you enter — no delivery charges or minimum loads are modelled.
