Example: A 48 × 40 × 48 in pallet at 500 lb is 53.33 ft³, 9.375 lb/ft³. With a pasted table whose 8 lb/ft³ row is class 100 and 10 lb/ft³ row is 92.5, it is class 100, 33 lb short of the next break.

How density is computed, why the class table is yours to supply, and what the “next break” figure tells you.
Density
Each piece contributes length × width × height × quantity to the cube (inches ÷ 1,728 for cubic feet; centimetres to cubic metres, × 35.3147) and its weight × quantity to the total. Density is total weight over total cube, in lb/ft³ and kg/m³ (1 lb/ft³ = 16.018 kg/m³). Measure the pallet as shipped — pallet included, at the highest and widest points — because that is what a carrier's dimensioner records.
Class from your table
LTL freight classes are assigned by the National Motor Freight Classification, a licensed publication whose density guidelines also depend on the commodity and change over time, so no table is built in. Paste the breakpoints you hold — from your carrier's tariff or your NMFC copy — one per line as “minimum density : class”, and the page assigns the class of the highest breakpoint at or below your density. It then reports how much extra weight, or how much less cube, would reach the next breakpoint, which is the figure that decides whether to consolidate or repack.
Limits
Density is only one of the four NMFC factors (with stowability, handling and liability); commodity-specific classes, dimensional-weight pricing and accessorial charges are outside this page — the Dimensional Weight page covers parcel volumetric weight. Nothing leaves the browser; the same four anonymous usage counts as the rest of the site apply.
